About Us Simply the finest gear at a great price. The HS Gear Story HS Gear was formed by public safety professionals and soldiers initially to help our co-workers, team members, unit colleagues, etc... get good gear for less. There is a ton of really lousy gear on the market, and it'll cost you top dollar. From the beginning the crew here wanted to play with cool gear - who doesn't? But buying it at retail prices was breaking our banks. So we sat around and tried to figure out how to get "the good stuff" for less money. Mike Silverman, our fearless leader, owned a business with an existing retail license - Health Services Group. He trains medics of all sorts. Mike is also the only one who had any money of the group, so Mike was the ring leader. We sat around with a bunch of our favorite ales and made up a "wish list" of all the stuff we really thought would be cool to buy for less. We came up with about 25 top items - mostly BDU's and packs - and made up an order form to hand out at drills and roll calls. We really only wanted the thing to pay for our own stuff. We never planned on it being a real live business. Well, one thing led to another, and our simple little idea got way out of control. Every 1SGT and Shift Commander in the area was handing out our little order form. Before we knew it we were getting 20 or 30 of the things a week. They were coming in from units all over the place. The initial list had grown from the original 25 items to about 150 on 5 sheets. We weren't quite sure how to handle the whole thing, until a young E4 came up and innocently enough asked Mike if we had a web site he could order from. Needless to say, Mike's "Duh" meter pegged and we started the site up the next week. Why did we call it HS Gear? Several reasons, really. Mike's main company is called HSG - so we could answer the phones with the same initials. But it's also an acronym for High Speed - as in High Speed, Low Drag. That's the way we try to be, so that's what we named the store. We hope you'll enjoy shopping with us. If there's something you need, let us know - chances are we can get it or have it made for you.
